The perspective from a fishing boat is an excellent way to explore the island's diverse coastline, spot marine life, and discover hidden coves.

The island features a rugged coastline with dramatic cliffs, pristine beaches, and lush forest reserves. Its unique geology has resulted in a distinctive array of flora and fauna, making it a haven for nature enthusiasts. The island is relatively small, making it easy to explore, but the diverse landscape provides ample opportunity for memorable experiences. The summer months also coincide with the nesting season for seabirds, making it an excellent time for observation and capturing photography in a pristine natural environment.

From the water, you can see  picturesque coastline and significant landmarks such as the tall the peaks of Mount Pitt and Mount Bates, you can cruise past the secluded beaches of Emily Bay and Anson Bay, as well the historic sites of Kingston and Ball Bay.

Navigating the Waters
Before the advent of GPS and modern fishing equipment, local fishermen relied on traditional methods to navigate the waters around Norfolk Island. These techniques were often passed down through generations, with fishermen meticulously recording their observations and knowledge in handwritten diaries. These diaries serve as a testament to the meticulous nature of their craft and the historical significance of their fishing practices.

The club advocates for a voluntary bag limit during the spawning season of the Sweetlip Emperor, a vital measure to protect the species' reproductive cycle. This demonstrates our community's commitment to responsible fishing, ensuring that future generations can enjoy the same abundance.

Safety First
As with any outdoor activity, safety is a top priority when fishing on Norfolk Island.

While Norfolk Island boasts a generally pleasant climate, weather conditions can impact boat charter operations. In particular, strong winds and rough seas can make the departure from Kingston or Cascade pier, impossible. Fishing operators are fully aware of the island's weather patterns and for safety will reschedule or cancel charters if necessary.

Fishing off the rocks can be dangerous, so it's considered essential to ask a local who can provide expert advice and recommend the safest spots.
